ANGKOR WAT

After a hike to the walled city Lo Mustang  in Nepal, I took a side trip to ANGKOR WAT. It was originally Hindu built during the Khmer Empire some time prior to the 12th Century. By the end of that time it was merged , in a fashion into a Buddhist shrine. That , to me is somewhat strange as the Bas relief circumventing one of the Temples not only showed daily life but also the warrior culture of those peoples. During my hike to Lo Manthang I had some high altitude illness and after about 11 days or so and the loss of 23 pounds the group leader decided that I should have been choppered out, which I was , back to Kathmandu. Four days later I flew to  Cambodia to see this wonder. Although the Khmer people were distinct conquerors this complex was devoured by the the jungle for centuries as you can see by this picture. The complex was used as a back drop for the first "Lara Croft" film. This , to me, evidences that hubris can fell any empire.
